I mourn the passing though also celebrate of one of the finest Masters and Mentors I ever had the privilege of sailing with, in fair weather and foul. He was Frist Officer aboard the S/V Fantome when I signed on as an ABS in 1973, and I very quickly learned that while he was most certainly a man of few words, what he did choose to say was undoubtedly important if one of his crew were to not only remain, but to grow as a professional seaman, and a man in full. He was a consummate professional mariner of the first degree and powerful role model and an indispensable mentor in my early professional maritime endeavors. A wry smile, dry sense of humor and a seemingly endless willingness to share the considerable skills gleaned over the decades of life at sea. I was fortunate to serve as a bridge officer on one of his many extended circumnavigations which remain some of the most seminal, and joyous years of my life.
Thank Captain Paul, and clear skies as you pass across the bar.
Semper Fi,
John Kitson (Captain, ret)

Paul was my Captain on the Regina Maris.
I sailed with him from Dec 1990 thru May 1992.
I learned a lot of seamanship, navigation and tall ship handling from him. I am sorry for your loss and have great memories of the time we sailed.
First Mate Ary Pronk and also my wife April Pronk who also sailed with Paul.
Also best regards from Doug Elden, who also was a First Mate , whom I just talked to about the passing of Paul.
