Ipswich Town skipper Luke Chambers admitted he didn’t know whether he was coming or going as speculation mounted over his future on deadline day.

The 31-year-old skipper was offered a deal with former club Nottingham Forest and looked set to leave Portman Road at one stage.

The Blues skipper is out-of-contract at Ipswich in the summer, although the club have the option to sign him for another year, and Chambers still doesn’t know where his long-term future lies.

“It was in the club’s hands really, obviously there has been a lot made of my situation in the summer, with my contract,” Chambers told Sky Sports’ EFL Weekly show.

“I never asked to leave, it’s just an opportunity came up which would be better for my future with the club (Ipswich) undecided on what they want to do on my contract.

“It’s nothing I really want to go into, but it was a difficult day and I didn’t really know if I was going to be playing in the evening, whether I would be here or there.

“Obviously, Nottingham Forest is a club where I had a tremendous time, I was there for five-and-a-half years and played a lot of games for them and had some good times, so that will always hold a good place in my heart but, at the minute, I am with Ipswich and looking forward to the game (against Norwich) at the weekend.”

After his move to Forest didn’t materialise, Chambers ended up playing that night for Town against Derby, the Rams leaving Suffolk with a 3-0 victory.

“I tried not to let that affect us (me),” he added, who was praised by manager Mick McCarthy for his attitude.

“I was upset with the way the day had gone and the fact that we had got beat 3-0 against Derby.

“Times were tough at that time, we weren’t performing particularly well but when you hear your manager talking about you in that way, it’s always nice to hear.

“I have never been unhappy here. The lads have always been brilliant with me, the fans, the manager. I am enjoying my football at the minute, I am playing centre-half and we are performing so it’s all good.”
