Flood alerts remain in place in parts of Suffolk this morning as rain continues to fall, causing river levels to rise to precarious heights.
The Environment Agency (EA) has issued flood alerts for the River Deben between Debenham and Bromeswell, and the River Lark between Clopton and Martlesham after days of continued rainfall.
Although EA staff are expecting the river to stabilise, they couldn’t rule out further increases over the coming days.
Residents living alongside the River Waveney in Diss are also on alert.
The EA are monitoring levels, between Diss and Ellingham, including the Bungay stretch.
Forecasters have also warned there could be more showers to come.
Adam Dury, a forecaster at Weatherquest said last night: “All through the morning there are showers moving through the area, and that could be quite heavy through to Wednesday, so there could be quite a lot of rain over the next 24 hours.”
Weatherquest’s station in Wattisham recorded 9.4mm of rainfall on Sunday – almost a fifth of the expected rainfall for the whole of January.
Forecasters have also said there could be between 25mm and 30mm of rain having fallen by Wednesday.
