Plans to convert an unused warehouse at a supermarket into a second retail unit have been approved.

Budgens moved into Sorley Road in Stowmarket, at Suffolk Central Business Park, in February.

As part of the original plans, a large warehouse was included in the design of the store.

However, a planning statement said the supermarket did not use the store area.

It read: "There is a small store area that is adequate for this purpose, such that the operator does not need the large warehouse area that was approved to support this use."

Plans to convert the space into a second retail unit have since been given the go-ahead by Mid Suffolk District Council.

It is unclear which business will move into the space.

The planning statement adds: "The proposal would serve the local community that has grown through the significant new development that has been constructed here.

"It does not seek to provide ‘destination’ retail space, but instead looks to offer local facilities that would help support the local community, in line with the principles of walking neighbourhoods."
