Villagers have expressed their disappointment after it was revealed that their pub would not be reopening its doors.
It was confirmed on Thursday that the proposed buyers for The Magpie pub in Little Stonham, near Stowmarket, would not be continuing with their purchase after "issues and damage" were identified during viewings.
However, it has been confirmed that the continued closure of the pub, along the A140, will not affect proposals by the parish council to resurrect the sign over the road, with plans expected to be submitted to the Mid Suffolk District Council soon.
A statement from the buyers on social media said they were "deeply sorry to all those who were excited to see the future of The Magpie pub".
Ivan Richardson, of Stonham Parva Parish Council, said: "It is a real disappointment that the sale has fallen through.
"They were quite enthusiastic about opening a community pub, which we want as a village. It is going to take a lot to get it back up and running again.
"It was the meeting point for people. Maybe somebody else will take it on."
The Grade II Listed pub closed suddenly earlier this year.
Plans to restore the historic gantry sign which previously stood over the A140 remain ongoing after it was purchased by the parish council.
"What's happened is we managed to get ownership of the sign - it is now in our possession," added Mr Richardson. "We are about to submit planning permission to have it raised again. It is part of Suffolk history and from that perspective it is going back again."
Mr Richardson that "everyone is behind them" as the council looks to press ahead with the proposals.
The pub is currently listed for sale on the Penn Commercial website with a guide price of £275,000.
The listing states it is need of refurbishment.
