A new sign will be installed on the A14 to make drivers aware of a town's low bridge, once labelled the "most bashed in Britain".

The Coddenham Road railway bridge, on the B1078 in Needham Market, has long proved problematic for drivers, with several accidents having taken place over the years.

Suffolk Highways revealed earlier this week that new 'low bridge' signs would be installed at the site following calls from former MP Dan Poulter and local residents to find a solution to improve safety.

A spokesperson for the authority said the work would include installing a new sign on the A14 to make drivers aware of the low structure.

The sign on the bridge and its approaches will be amended to reflect recent adjustments.

Suffolk Highways will be carrying out the work between 7pm and 5am from Monday, December 2 until Friday, December 6.

The bridge, which is on a blind bend, previously held the title of being the most bashed in Britain after research by Network Rail.
