Thurlow Nunn Premier Haverhill Borough 0 Stowmarket Town 6 Stowmarket Town made it eight wins in a row after easing past Haverhill Borough 6-0 at the New Croft on Saturday, writes Alex Moss.
Josh Mayhew struck twice in the first half to take his impressive tally this season up to 42 goals, while Ace Howell and Amar Lewis (two) also found the target for the Old Gold and Blacks.
It was the first time Stow have recorded a league win over Borough, having drawn two and lost seven of the previous nine league encounters with their Suffolk rivals, and keeps Rick Andrews’ side in third place in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division table.
The visitors had not lost on their travels in the Premier Division since mid-September, racking up nine wins and a draw on the road since losing at Kirkley & Pakefield back on September 12, and they were on course to keep up their fine run of form when they broke the deadlock inside the first 10 minutes.
Dave Cowley’s free kick found Lewis in the Haverhill box and his low cross across goal was diverted in by a Borough player to give Andrews’ side an early lead.
Stow then strengthened their grip on the contest with two goals in four first-half minutes. The first of those, arguably the pick of the goals, saw Cowley find Mayhew who then lobbed Ed Greenhall, in the Borough goal, with an excellent finish on 27 minutes.
Three minutes later Cowley was the provider again as his cross was tucked away by Mayhew for his 42nd goal of the campaign and put Stow 3-0 in front.
Andrews’ side made it 4-0 two minutes before half time, a neat one two between Mayhew and Howell sent the latter through and he made no mistake in slotting past Greenhall for his third goal in two games.
Stow continued to push for more goals after the break and moved further in front on 52 minutes. Another quick break from the visitors saw Howell tee up Lewis to finish past Greenhall, before Lewis doubled his tally 10 minutes from time to complete the scoring.
