- Haverhill will host the semi-final of the Hambro Cup between Bury St Edmunds and Brett Vale on August 27. The other semi-final between Gorleston and Haverhill will be at Diss. The final is on September 10.

The semi-final of the Tolly Cobbold Cup between Ufford Park and Ipswich will be held at Woodbridge. The other semi-final between Diss and Bury St Edmunds will be played at Stowmarket. The final will be at Rookery Park on September 10.

Diss won their quarter-final at St Audry’s by three holes. Key to their victory was the partnership between 17-year-old Charlie Stammers and Phil Allen who were 10 up on the day. Stammers now plays off eight. He won his Stenson Shield match against Jordan Nelli at Purdis Heath at the end of last month when called up as an afternoon substitute.

- Suffolk under-16 boys took on Suffolk under-14s at Royal Worlington in a match designed to give the lower age group experience of foursomes golf. Although the under 14s won three of the five matches, the under 16s won by three holes using Hambro scoring. It was useful practice and demonstrated that there is talent coming through the Suffolk junior coaching programme which, if they sustain their progress, should bear fruit in the future.

Gerry Markham, father of Stowmarket head professional Jon, holed in one at the 192-yard fourth hole at Rushmere using a three-wood. His playing partners were Roy Hudson and Mark Wheeldon.
